Undergraduate Recruiting Policies
The Hoffman Family Undergraduate Center for Career Development (CCD) values the professional relationships developed with employer partners and commits to the facilitation of high quality engagement between employers and students. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles of Ethical Professional Practice and Advisory Opinions guide the development and review of the undergraduate recruiting policies set forth by the Hoffman Family Undergraduate Center for Career Development (CCD). The CCD also adheres to laws, policies, and guidance provided by the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and all other applicable federal and state laws.
If you have any questions about our policies, please contact us at undergradccd@babson.edu.
The Hoffman Family Undergraduate Center for Career Development (CCD) reserves the right to decline or revoke services to an organization at any time for noncompliance with the Babson College undergraduate recruiting policies, the NACE Principles of Ethical Professional Practice, or any federal or state law. We reserve the right to modify policies and conditions at any time.

The CCD utilizes Handshake for all internship and job postings. This platform is intended to provide undergraduate students with internship and job opportunities aligned with academic programs and appropriate for current students and recent graduates. The CCD reserves the right to decline or revoke services to prospective or current recruiting organizations for abuse of the platform, intentional posting of inaccurate or misleading information, fraudulent internship or job opportunities, or employment practices misaligned with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles of Ethical Professional Practice and Advisory Opinions or federal and state law.
Examples of positions that do NOT align with our guidelines include:
- Roles where a student is required to work out of a private residence
- Individual families (babysitting, nannying, and tutoring) & summer camps
- Jobs with a minimum degree qualification below a Bachelor’s degree level (High School diploma/GED)
- Jobs requiring 3+ years of experience, postgrad, doctoral, or trade degrees (including medical professionals, teachers, and other roles that require licensure or advanced degrees)
- Any role that does not align with a Business degree (e.g. mechanical/chemical/electrical/civil engineering; maintenance technicians; forestry/agriculture jobs; teachers; police officers; athletic trainers; etc.)
Return Offers: All full-time offers received at the completion of a summer internship should remain open until September 30 or a minimum of 14 days, whichever is later.
All Other Offers: All full-time and internship offers should remain open for a minimum of 14 days regardless of semester received.
The CCD asks organizations to compensate competitively for students’ time and talent.
While we do allow unpaid internships in Handshake, the posting must clearly state that the internship is unpaid.
By posting a paid OR unpaid internship in Handshake, you agree to the following statement:
“I understand there are Federal and State guidelines which determine whether interns should be compensated under the Fair Labor Standards Act for the services they provide. I confirm that I have reviewed the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division for resources on compensation and employee rights, including Fact Sheet #71: Internship Programs Under the Fair Labor Standards Act for guidance on unpaid internships.”
As a part of our commitment to maintaining fair and transparent recruitment practices, we do not allow job postings from third-party recruiters on behalf of other companies. In order to post jobs on Handshake, third-party recruiters must indicate that a posting is for an internal position.
Third-party recruiters with fees assessed to candidates are not permitted to access services provided by the CCD.
The CCD advises students to review the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ (NACE) guidance for working with staffing agencies and other third party recruiters.
The CCD reserves the right to decline or revoke services to any third-party employer at any time.
We do NOT approve part-time or temp jobs. We DO approve part-time internships.
We focus on providing access to full-time and internship positions that are related to Babson concentrations. We recommend using indeed.com to post your job listing for college students who are seeking part-time positions.
The CCD requires organizations to comply with the Babson College commitment to diversity and equal opportunity. Organizations must evaluate candidates without regard to race, color, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, genetics, physical or mental disability, and veteran or other protected status.
We do not approve job postings for commission-only roles. We do allow roles that are based partially on commission but have a base salary. This distinction must be clearly outlined in the job description.
As a part of our commitment to maintaining fair and equitable recruitment practices, we do not allow job opportunities that require students to pay a fee in order to participate or be considered for an opportunity to be posted on Handshake.
We understand that there may be legitimate fees associated with certain programs or services, but we cannot allow job opportunities that require students to pay for the opportunity itself.
