Financial Advisor – Advisor Development Program Baystate Financial | Boston’s North Shore, MA

About Baystate Financial

Since 1901, Baystate Financial has been one of New England’s premier wealth management firms, providing comprehensive financial planning and investment advisory services to individuals, families, and business owners. We are committed to a fiduciary, client-first approach delivering objective, personalized strategies designed to help clients build, protect, and transfer wealth across generations.

We are seeking highly motivated, entrepreneurially minded individuals to join our Advisor Development Program, a structured career track designed to develop the next generation of financial advisors.

The Opportunity

The financial advisory industry is undergoing a fundamental shift and advisors who understand where it’s heading will define the next era of wealth management.

Consumers, regulators, and the marketplace are all moving in the same direction: toward transparent, fee-based financial planning built on fiduciary advice rather than product sales. The traditional commission-driven brokerage model is giving way to a more sophisticated, client-aligned standard, one where advisors are compensated for the quality of their guidance, not the products they place.

Baystate Financial has operated this way for decades. Our fee-based, fiduciary model isn’t an adaptation to industry pressure, it’s how we’ve always done business. That means advisors who join us today are already positioned on the right side of where the industry is going, with the training, tools, and firm culture to build a practice that will remain relevant, trusted, and competitive for the long term.

As a Financial Advisor with Baystate Financial, you will build and manage your own client practice while being supported by an experienced team of financial professionals, robust training resources, and institutional-grade tools. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on clients’ financial lives while building a rewarding, long-term career.

What You’ll Do

Client Development

  • Identify and develop relationships with prospective clients through networking, referrals, and community engagement
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, guiding clients through major financial decisions and life transitions
  • Build and maintain a book of business with a focus on long-term client relationships

Financial Planning & Advisory

  • Deliver comprehensive, fee-based financial plans covering investment management, retirement planning, tax strategies, estate planning, and risk management
  • Develop customized, goal-based investment strategies aligned with each client’s objectives, time horizon, and risk tolerance
  • Collaborate with internal CFAs, CFP® professionals, attorneys, and CPAs on complex planning engagements

Investment Management

  • Build and actively manage diversified portfolios across public equities, fixed income, ETFs, and alternative asset classes — constructing strategies that balance growth, income, and risk across full market cycles
  • Apply real-time analysis of macroeconomic conditions, interest rate environments, earnings trends, sector rotation, and valuation frameworks to position client capital with precision and conviction
  • Access an institutional-grade investment platform that includes private equity, hedge fund strategies, structured products, and real asset investments — tools typically reserved for endowments and family offices, now available to your clients
  • Utilize tax-aware portfolio construction techniques, including tax-loss harvesting, asset location, and distribution sequencing to maximize after-tax wealth accumulation
  • Leverage proprietary research, third-party institutional analytics, and cutting-edge modeling tools to stress-test portfolios, model scenarios, and communicate your investment thesis with clarity
  • Serve as a genuine capital allocator for your clients, making thoughtful, research-backed decisions that compound over time and define your reputation as an advisor

Risk Management & Insurance Planning

A truly comprehensive financial plan doesn’t just grow wealth, it protects it. At Baystate Financial, risk management is treated as an integral pillar of every client relationship, not an afterthought or a separate sale. This is not a role where you recommend only a model portfolio and move on. You will develop real investment acumen, informed by markets, shaped by client context, and refined through ongoing mentorship from credentialed investment professionals.

You will work with a sophisticated suite of insurance and protection tools that allow you to address the full spectrum of a client’s financial vulnerabilities:

  • Life Insurance — from term solutions for income replacement to permanent structures such as whole life and indexed universal life, used strategically for estate planning, business succession, and tax-efficient wealth transfer
  • Disability Insurance — protecting a client’s most valuable asset: their earning power. You will help professionals, business owners, and high-income earners understand the real financial risk of an unexpected disability and design coverage that preserves their lifestyle and long-term plan
  • Annuities — both fixed and variable, used as planning instruments to generate guaranteed income streams, manage sequence-of-returns risk in retirement, and provide clients with the confidence to spend from their portfolio without fear of outliving their assets
  • Long-Term Care Insurance — one of the most underaddressed risks in financial planning. You will guide clients through the critical decisions around funding potential long-term care needs, protecting their retirement assets, preserving family wealth, and avoiding the devastating financial impact that extended care can have on even well-constructed financial plans

The ability to integrate these tools fluently alongside investment and planning strategies is what separates a great financial advisor from a good one. At Baystate, you will be trained and licensed to work across all of these disciplines — giving you the breadth to serve clients at the highest level and the versatility to build a more resilient, diversified practice.

Training & Development — Built In-House. Built for the Long Term.

One of the most meaningful commitments Baystate Financial makes to every new advisor is this: we don’t hand you a manual and wish you luck. We’ve built a proprietary, multi-year training program from the ground up — one that reflects over 120 years of experience developing successful financial advisors in the New England market.

Most firms offer training as a checkbox. At Baystate, it’s a competitive advantage.

Proprietary Curriculum

Our in-house curriculum was developed by Baystate’s own senior advisors, CFAs, CFP® professionals, and leadership team, people who have built successful practices themselves and understand exactly what it takes to thrive in this business. The content is continuously updated to reflect current market conditions, planning strategies, regulatory changes, and best practices in client engagement. You won’t be learning from a generic national training platform. You’ll be learning from the people you work alongside every day.

Structured, Multi-Year Development Path

Advisor development at Baystate is not a 90-day onboarding program, it’s an ongoing, multi-year commitment. Your development evolves as your practice grows, with training that deepens in complexity and sophistication as you advance. Early phases focus on foundational skills, licensing, and client engagement. Intermediate phases build out your investment knowledge, planning expertise, and business development capabilities. Advanced phases focus on practice management, client retention, and specialization.

At every stage, you know exactly where you are, what’s expected of you, and what comes next.

Classroom & Case-Based Learning

Through structured classroom sessions and real-world case studies, you’ll learn how to analyze client situations, construct financial plans, and present investment strategies with confidence. Sessions are led by senior advisors and credentialed professionals and industry experts giving you direct access to the expertise and judgment that comes from decades of working with actual clients.

One-on-One Mentorship

Every new advisor is paired with an experienced mentor who provides ongoing guidance, accountability, and perspective. Your mentor will work with you directly on client cases, help you navigate early challenges, and invest personally in your growth as an advisor. This relationship doesn’t end after onboarding, it evolves alongside your career.

Communication & Client Skills Coaching

Technical knowledge is only part of what makes a great advisor. Through ongoing role-play exercises, presentation coaching, and real-time feedback, you’ll develop the communication skills to build trust quickly, explain complex concepts clearly, and guide clients through difficult conversations with confidence. This is a dimension of advisor training that most firms underinvest in, at Baystate, it’s a core part of the program.

Licensing Support

Baystate provides full sponsorship and structured study support for all required licenses and designations, including the SIE, Series 7, Series 63, Life & Health, and the CFP®. You’ll have access to dedicated study resources and the guidance of colleagues who have been through the process — so you’re never navigating it alone.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who are driven, intellectually curious, and committed to a client-focused advisory career.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting, or a related field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to build and grow an independent practice

  • Take on leadership and mentorship responsibilities within the firm
  • Build lasting enterprise value in your own book of business
